In this latest article by Maggie Ryan, they once again contacted our own Heather Jeffcoat, DPT, this time for her expert opinion on pilates crunches for toning your lower abs.
"I've been doing a lot of Pilates lately, and my abs are really liking all the new moves. One core exercise I really didn't see coming? Pilates double toe taps, a simple crunch variation done on your back that lit up my lower abs."
Things are heating up, but your body’s not keeping pace.
Whether it happens with a partner during sex or solo with your favorite toy, vaginal dryness is never fun. It can result in feeling unsatisfied in the bedroom, experiencing discomfort or even pain during intercourse and masturbation.
The website "Greatist" has once again reached out to Heather Jeffcoat for her expert opinion, this time regarding postpartum sex after delivery via c-section.
Recovering after a C-section is tough, especially since you’re also adjusting to your new routine (or lack thereof) as a parent. In the thick of postpartum stress, when you’re sleep-deprived and sore, you might wonder when you’ll feel “normal” again — or at least back to wanting the things you used to crave, like regular sex with your boo.
With 189 out of 199 reviewers giving five stars, Sex Stories with Wyoh Lee is surely one of the highest rated podcasts in any genre. In Episode 60, Wyoh sits down with our own Heather Jeffcoat, DPT.
Bye-bye Pain, Hello Pleasure:
"Painful sex is great if you’re into that – but if it isn’t on purpose, Doctor of Physical Therapy Heather Jeffcoat can help you. In this episode, she explains how her work transforms sex lives of women and trans people and makes sex pleasurable – and in some cases, possible – again. We get an overview of her book, Sex Without Pain, and Wyoh bookends the talk with some sexy listener shares."
Once again the highly ranked health and fitness website Hello Giggles has tapped Heather Jeffcoat for some valuable insights into ways to alleviate pain associated with sex. The article begins with:
"While collaborative, orgasmic, sticky, and kinky are just a few adjectives that could be used to talk about sex, 75 percent of vulva-owners may also include “painful” to the list."
Heather chimes in
If you’re experiencing painful penetrative sex, one of the first steps is understanding that there are other ways to experience intimacy and sexual pleasure,” says Jeffcoat. “I like to direct patients to use their hands or a vibrator and explore external or clitoral stimulation.
The goal is first to find sex acts and positions that don’t cause discomfort or pain and instead, increase pleasure.
Sex therapists are also a great way to work on intimacy issues and relationship difficulties that can be exacerbated by the sexual pain.

Their latest article penned by Gigi Engle and filed under "Sex and Love" blows the hood off not only the clitoris, but the G-spot, the A-spot, the O-spot, and the V-spot. The G-spot comes first, and Gigi turns to Heather Jeffcoat, DPT, founder of Femina Physical Therapy for a quick rundown of the associated anatomy:
Learn the difference between an intentional vs. unintentional ruined orgasm and what it all means.
My office frequently receives calls and emails about orgasm function. "Can you help my orgasms be more intense? Can you help me if I've never had an orgasm? Does my pelvic pain affect my orgasm? I can't orgasm, I can only get aroused-can you help with this, too?"
What all our patients receive after their thorough history and physical examination is education. The clitoris is so much more than what you see peeking out of the hood. It's a large structure that extends underneath the hood and has 'legs" (medically termed "crura") that extend along the pubic ramus and bulbs that lie on either side of the vaginal opening. Understanding your own anatomy is key to figuring out what your next steps are.
Livestrong.com is a quite popular website that (in their own words) "provides the blueprint to simple healthy living". It was founded by world champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, and it covers a wide variety of topics that help people make better choices about their health and wellness.
While compiling information for the article linked below they reached out Heather Jeffcoat for her opinion on several topics, including the best options for Pilates reformers. To quote Heather:
I went to Heather after the birth of my third child. It was lucky, really, that I was referred to her, because my doctor had referred me to a surgeon for a possible hysterectomy or pelvic wall rebuild. Thankfully, I went to Heather before undergoing either surgery, she was able to fix the problem. She has studied extensively in women's health--even written a book about it--and was able to diagnose my problem, suggest a course of treatment (6 weeks), and then follow through with said treatment. By the end, as she said, I was as good as gold. Boy, was it worth it! Though uncomfortable to talk about, much less write about, it is worth getting the word out there. If you have painful intercourse, especially after birth or other trauma, the treatment may be as simple as Physical Therapy (with Heather, of course). I highly recommend her.

I was in multiple car accidents a decade ago, and I have been to many physical therapists through the years without success. They found the root of my lower back pain problems and after nearly a decade of barely being able to walk I finally can again without pain. They are also the best pelvic floor pts and the only ones who found the connection between my pelvic floor and lower back problems. If you need help with physical pain, they are your answer.

As someone who suffered the debilitating physical and emotional effects of vaginismus (as well as a complicated history of back injuries) for more than 15 years, I thought a "normal" life was just a fantasy. Then I found Heather.

A personal journey and testimonial from one of my patients:
I was diagnosed with vaginismus 4 years ago. I never heard of such medical condition until after I got married. At first my husband and I didn't know what to do, we didn't know what the issues were or how to overcome it. Being born and raised in Armenia and being Christian I wasn't that open about talking to sex with others and so it wasn't easy to seek help. But eventually I went to an Ob-Gyn and luckily she knew about the medical condition (not many doctors know). She referred me to a physical therapist and I couldn't believe it and thought it's something I can handle myself. I ordered a kit from vaginismus.com and started practicing with dilators. There was some small progress but wasn't much helpful.
