On Saturday May 19th, Shelby Hadden, director and creator of Tightly Wound, came to Los Angeles to screen her short animated film on her experience with delayed diagnosis and eventual treatment of Vaginismus. Femina Physical Therapy in cooperation with Pelvic Health and Rehabilitation Center, Soul Source Dilators and Milli, hosted two events in Los Angeles to increase exposure for Shelby’s film, and in turn increase awareness of this distressing, yet very treatable, condition. You can read about the format and speakers of our morning event here. All attendees received a gift bag from our sponsors, and additional samples were provided by Uber Lube, Desert Harvest and Slippery Stuff.

We also held a private evening event for professionals, which consisted of several screenings of Tightly Wound, Q&A sessions with Shelby and networking for Los Angeles and Orange County pelvic health professionals. In attendance were physicians in disciplines of Ob/Gyn, GI, Neurology, nurses, mental health professional and pelvic health physical therapists. The event raised funds to help with the publicity of the film at upcoming film festivals.

As of the publication of this post, Tightly Wound has already won an Honorable Mention in the Documentary Short category of the Nashville Film Festival. It has also been accepted into numerous film festivals in the US and Europe, including the prestigious Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France.

At Femina Physical Therapy, we believe this movie has a message that will inform providers and empower women. We encourage you to support the publicity and distribution of this film and be a part of this new wave of education and empowerment for women. Getting this film on a platform that has broad viewership is an important step in destigmatizing women’s sexual health disorders. If you are interested in supporting this film and ending the stigma on vaginismus and other female sexual dysfunctions, we encourage you to donate here (tax deductible). Any amount helps!

Thank you,
Heather Jeffcoat, DPT (owner of Femina Physical Therapy)
