SoftWave therapy (a specialized type of low intensity Shockwave Therapy) has been increasingly utilized in rehabilitation environments. In our offices, licensed physical therapists treat pelvic health conditions such as vestibulodynia, vulvodynia, vaginismus, pelvic pain, and other female sexual pain diagnoses, other pelvic health issues such as urinary incontinence, bladder pain and urinary urgency and frequency. As licensed physical therapists that take a whole body approach to your care, we also utillize Softwave for numerouse orthopedic conditions including neck pain, back pain, acute and chronic tendinitis', temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD), DeQuarvain's Tenosynovitis, plantar fasciitis, joint pain and inflammation, sprains & strains, muscle pain, scar pain and restricted scar tissue and so much more.
Softwave therapy has many applications for new mamas as well! Softwave is well-researched for wound healing, and we utilize this to treat slow to heal or non-healing perineal lacerations from childbirth and cesarean incisions, accelerating the healing process through the creation of new blood vessels, tissue regeneration and other processes discussed below.
Myofascial restrictions can be caused by postural dysfunction, trauma, inflammatory conditions and/or surgeries. When these restrictions occur, they can produce tensile pressures up to 2,000 pounds per square inch on sensitive structure and lead to chronic pain. It essentially creates a ‘straight-jacket’ of pain around the tissue and can keep you in a cycle of pain.
Femina PT offers Fascial Stretch Therapy™, an assisted-stretching system that unlocks the flexibility potential in your body! FST™ is a unique system of therapy & training that dramatically improves your flexibility by lengthening your fascia.
Fascia is the connective tissue that envelops all structures of the body, effectively connecting them together. The problem is that fascia will thicken & shorten when any of your tissues are under stress from poor posture, improper body mechanics, lack of exercise, injury, surgery, disease or over-training. This process is accelerated when the body (and, therefore the tissues) are dehydrated.
5 stars for Laureen because she is an awesome therapist, and I have seen a big improvement. Minus one star for the reception who can be a bit pushy and borderline rude at times. I understand that she may need to follow protocol but you need to be a bit more pleasant and friendly at a customer service position where the client is paying $200 each time. I have been very tempted to switch to another PT based on the difficulty with scheduling appointments, but Laureen is just that good.
Months after giving birth, it was difficult for me to go from a sitting or lying position up to a full standing position without feeling that I had to remain hunched over until a bit of time had passed to get fully upright. However, after taking Heather’s course, I learned exercises to get my body back to normal. She also showed me correct ways to lift and carry my son as well as put him in/take him out of the carseat and stroller. This class was really beneficial and Heather is a wonderful teacher who made me feel very comfortable.
Heather has affected my life in the MOST POSITIVE way and I am forever grateful. My husband refers to her as the "sex doctor" so you can only imagine how happy he is with my therapy outcome.
After the birth of my son I suffered from "Vaginismus", however, at the time I just thought I was broken. My "broken vagina" affected me physically but it was an emotional struggle as well. Many women in my life also suffered with pain from sex after their babies were born so I knew I wasn't alone. They told me they "just got used to it" but I couldn't see myself living that way.
Sex wasn't just painful, it was literally impossible - IT DIDNT FIT!
