My last appointment with Heather was over 6 years ago but I still think of her every day. I don’t take for granted that I can easily get out of bed, care for my two active and busy young boys, run, play tennis, clean my house, or sit at a desk for several hours at a time. None of these tasks were easy for me before meeting Heather. Eight years ago my car was struck from behind by a tractor trailer that was estimated to have been speeding. I spent 3 years working with different PTs and Drs trying to heal and move on with my life. When I became pregnant and the hormone relaxin that “relaxes” all the joints of the body and the additional weight gain erased all my progress and I was suddenly in a lot of pain again. My OB sent me to Heather for one last try.
In my FIRST visit with Heather she immediately diagnosed my problem and showed me how to correct it. I couldn’t believe it- I immediately started feeling better. She was the youngest health professional I had seen, I had even met with the experienced PT that she was trained by and no one else did this for me. Heather took the time to ask the right questions, she REALLY listened to how I was experiencing pain and how it impacted my every day activities. Heather helped me throughout the remainder of my pregnancy and through the postpartum period. When she moved away and I became pregnant a second time 3 years later I used all the worksheets she gave me and then I met with her colleague that she transitioned me to. To say Heather changed my life would be an understatement. My husband and my mother ask about her and her growing family all the time because she will forever be part of our hearts. I never needed medicine or all the expensive tests (MRIs, X-rays) that orthopedic doctors had put me through. Heather is a tremendous PT for anyone experiencing pain but her knowledge of how pregnancy can impact the body and especially pre-existing injuries is unparalleled. I feel that Heather’s work to get my pain manageable during pregnancy helped me prepare for a natural childbirth. Women need more PT’s like her!
