Carly Cano, DPT

Carly graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in psychology and a passion for supporting others. After a personal family experience, she got a glimpse of how influential physical therapists can be in a patient’s recovery and healing. She sought and achieved a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from Chapman University in 2017.

During her PT studies, Carly fell in love with the pelvic floor musculature, remembering her eye-opening experience teaching sexual education to seventh graders throughout Los Angeles and drawing on her own experience with pelvic dysfunction in her early twenties when she struggled to find practitioners who could fully support her. After having sought classes and experiences that focused on this specialized area, she is now extremely passionate about incorporating the specialized care every person should have when it comes to their health. Carly wants her patients to know that she is on their team, to help guide them to a pain-free and satisfying life.

Since graduating, she’s worked in outpatient physical therapy settings, working with various orthopedic, neurologic, and mostly pelvic floor conditions. Pelvic floor conditions are often intertwined with the musculoskeletal and nervous system, so Carly uses her skills and knowledge to address this whole picture. She continually seeks out continuing education in this growing field, including visceral manual techniques and prenatal yoga. She will obtain her PRPC (Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification) through Herman and Wallace in the near future and is currently studying Functional Nutrition for Women’s Health through The Integrative Women’s Health Institute to address other areas of health that are imperative to healing from pelvic dysfunctions and/or are common with pelvic dysfunctions, such as digestive conditions and autoimmune conditions.

Carly prioritizes education with patients to not only reduce pain and discomfort but also to help them understand the underlying causes, prevent future challenges, and motivate and empower them in their own recovery.

In her spare time, Carly enjoys spending time with her husband and dog, practicing yoga, hiking, and reading books at the beach.

I just wanted to thank you for everything you've done for me for the past 19 months. I literally could not have reached my goals without you and your practice. You gave me the courage to keep moving forth with my treatment no matter how afraid and anxious I was. You were always there to answer questions and made this whole process so much easier than I expected it to be. It's because of you that my marriage is on the right track, that I can get pregnant and that this part of my life is finally...

My last appointment with Heather was over 6 years ago but I still think of her every day. I don’t take for granted that I can easily get out of bed, care for my two active and busy young boys, run, play tennis, clean my house, or sit at a desk for several hours at a time. None of these tasks were easy for me before meeting Heather. Eight years ago my car was struck from behind by a tractor trailer that was estimated to have been speeding. I spent 3 years working with different PTs and Drs...
