Struggles with Infertility

Sexual Pain & Dysfunction
Three out of four women experience painful sex or other related conditions in their lives. While often seen as psychological, there is typically a significant physical component. Addressing these issues is vital for pain relief and enhancing sexual health and well-being.

Bladder Dysfunction
Bladder symptoms can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. They may also connect to other health issues like muscle pain, dehydration, social isolation, and depression. It’s important to know that this is not something to ignore. Urinary incontinence usually gets worse over time, not better.

Pelvic & Abdominal Pain
Pelvic and abdominal pain presents as discomfort in the abdomen, hips, lower back, or groin. It may arise from conditions like endometriosis or vulvodynia but can also occur independently. The pelvic floor and surrounding muscles play a key role, suggesting a whole-body treatment approach is necessary.

Struggles with Infertility
Infertility has been linked with adhesions, which restrict the mobility and function of organs, fascia, and nerves. Adhesions involving reproductive organs can and do cause infertility. If you can decrease these restrictions, you can improve the overall function of the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus thus improving a women’s fertility.

Pregnancy Related Pain
While women’s bodies endure & adapt during pregnancy, 45% still report experiencing some level of pain. This can include pelvic girdle, low back, sacroiliac, and pubic joint pain. While common, these issues are often easily treatable.

Postpartum Recovery
It’s more than just the fourth trimester. Postpartum issues range from pelvic floor pain to abdominal weakness to postural dysfunction and can be problematic for significantly longer than 12 weeks.

Menopausal Support
Menopause is the stage of a woman’s life when her menstrual periods cease. It is not a disease or disorder - menopause is natural. However, the symptoms that arise during this transition, such as vaginal dryness, joint pain and stiffness, pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence, and hot flashes can be difficult to endure.

Post-Cancer Rehabilitation
Support and rehabilitation following cancer treatment to improve quality of life and pelvic function.

Common ≠ Normal
Women frequently hear from doctors and some sex therapists that their concerns and physical issues are normal. Are in fact common. However, conditions such as incontinence, painful sex and severe back pain during pregnancy are not normal experiences that should be dismissed. It's essential for women to recognize that their issues are valid, impact many others in similar situations, and should not be considered just a regular part of life. Just because something is common does not mean it is normal.

Understanding your pain, committed to your healing
Many women deal with issues related to vaginal penetration, frequently expressing that they experience discomfort or pain during intercourse or even when inserting a tampon. Additionally, many of these women report persistent feelings of soreness and/or tightness in the pelvic floor muscles, which can further exacerbate their already existing challenges. These troubling symptoms often escalate to the point where they become uncomfortable at best or, unbearable at worst. It is important to note that vaginal pain can occur without a clear cause, even after a thorough check-up by a doctor. Femina is dedicated to helping women improve their health and quality of life through specialized pelvic floor Physical Therapy. Our skilled and compassionate therapists work diligently to relieve pelvic pain, supporting women in their journey to restore their pelvic health and significantly reduce pain in their daily lives, both inside and outside of the bedroom.

Carrie (she/her/hers) is pursuing her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in San Marcos, CA. Her interest in Pelvic Floor physical therapy began after a brief introduction in a musculoskeletal class, which led to a growing number of questions about the Pelvic Floor specialty not covered elsewhere in the curriculum. She took the initiative as a student to further her education outside the classroom and the standard curriculum. She has received special training focused on Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy through the American Physical Therapy Association (Level 1 Certification) in February 2022.
